Upstream & Midstream Deployment
Seamless fittings are the standard for high-pressure gas gathering lines and crude oil transmission pipelines. They are heavily utilized in refinery "hot spots" where extreme temperatures would compromise the integrity of a welded seam. In offshore platforms, seamless components are used for subsea manifolds and riser systems where external seawater pressure and internal fluid pressure create multi-axial stress. They are also ideal for "sour service" environments where the absence of a weld seam eliminates the risk of preferential weld-line corrosion from hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and carbon dioxide (CO2).
Advantages of Seamless Design
- Higher Pressure Ratings: No weld joint efficiency factor required, allowing for higher design pressures.
- Improved Corrosion Resistance: Uniform grain structure prevents galvanic corrosion often found in weld zones.
- Geometric Accuracy: Seamless forming provides better circularity and wall thickness uniformity.
- Reduced NDT Costs: Fewer weld inspections are required during pipeline construction and maintenance.
