Severe Service Environments
Duplex 2205 is the material of choice for the desalination industry, where high-pressure brine systems would quickly degrade lesser metals. It is extensively used in oil and gas "sour" service where H2S and CO2 levels are high. Chemical tankers and chemical processing plants use Duplex 2205 for piping systems handling organic acids and chloride solutions. Furthermore, the pulp and paper industry utilizes these fittings in digesters and bleach plant equipment due to their high resistance to localized corrosion and erosion-corrosion.
Performance Highlights
- Cost Efficiency: Higher strength allows for thinner wall thickness, reducing overall project weight and material cost.
- Resistance to SCC: Virtually immune to chloride stress corrosion cracking.
- Erosion Resistance: Excellent durability in abrasive slurry or high-velocity fluid applications.
- High Thermal Conductivity: Lower thermal expansion coefficient compared to austenitic stainless steels.
